Gas Program in the Orenburg Region

The Gas program is TNK-BP’s biggest investment project in the Orenburg Region. Its principal aim is to improve the environmental situation in the region and raise associated gas utilization to a level of 95%. When the program was launched around 50% of all associated gas in Orenburg Region was being utilized; thanks to the measures taken, this figure is now in excess of 80%.

The Gas program has been underway since 2005, when work began at TNK-BP’s oilfields in the Orenburg Region to liquidate flaring and build gas gathering lines. In 2007, the Pokrovskaya gas compressor station (GCS) was renovated and the new Kurmanaevskaya GCS was built, together with new gas lines to the Kurmanaevskaya GCS from the Skvortsovskaya and Krutoyarovskaya booster pump stations. Thanks to these facilities, an additional 50 million cubic of gas can now be utilized each year and five flares have been extinguished. In 2008, six GCSs were built and commissioned (Pasmurovskaya, Savelyevskaya, Dolgovskaya, Gerasimovskaya, Tananykskaya and Rostashinskaya), and 156 km of gas pipeline was built or renovated. In the course of 2007 and 2008 as part of the program 17 flares were extinguished, allowing utilization of an additional 120 million cubic metres of gas.

During 2009 TNK-BP was building the new Vakhitovskaya GCS and Rodnikovskaya gas turbine power station.

TNK-BP plans to invest 16.5 billion roubles in the Orenburg Region Gas program by 2012. These funds will be used to renovate existing and build new gas pipelines and gas compressor stations, to construct the second phase of the Zaikinskiy gas treatment facility, to build a rail terminal for shipment of liquid products of gas processing, and to develop small-scale power generation.
