TNK-BP’s downstream business is primarily located west of the Urals mountains, and is well matched to its upstream production capacity. It has two key roles: to supply the domestic wholesale and retail markets and to enhance export capacity through the sale of oil products in both CIS and non-CIS markets.

TNK-BP owns five primary refineries, four of which are located in Russia and one in Ukraine. Besides, the company owns approximately 50% of Yaroslavnefteorgsintez (YANOS) via Slavneft. These, including the 50% share in YANOS, provide the company with a total throughput of 772,000 bd. In 2009 TNK-BP refined 675,000 bd of oil and other crude, which corresponds to an average of 87% of the use of its refining capacities.  

The principal refining asset is at Ryazan, located 200 kilometers southwest of Moscow and ideally situated to supply both the lucrative Moscow market as well as the export market of Northwest Europe. The other refineries in TNK-BP’s portfolio — Krasnoleninskiy NPZ and NNPO — are typical of those in Russia in terms of scale and complexity and are well located for crude supply and to serve their local markets.

LINIK is the best in the Ukraine, and is well positioned to serve the domestic market and to export via the Black Sea.
