Investors to Catch Uvat Like Hot Cakes Soon

April 06, 2004, Tuesday

Western Siberia has been righteously considered Russia''s oil stockroom from times immemorial. Yet the southern part of the Tyumen Region could not boast of significant crude output projects until recently. The situation changed with the Uvat project appearing in the list of investment initiatives in the region. What is in store for the Uvat group of fields? With their putting on-stream, the petroleum industry will play an increasingly important part in the area''s economy. According to TNK-BP''s Managing Director German Khan, the company has concentrated all licenses for development of fields of the Uvat project in its hands, which enables to get down to its realization soon. As German Khan points out, it is of major importance that this project''s efficiency and significance are properly appreciated and supported by the region''s governor, Mr. Sergey Sobianin, and his team. At present, TNK-Uvat is beginning commercial development of the Uvat project that includes the total of eight licensed sections. There are seven deposits (with extracted reserves of one hundred and fifteen million tons of oil) and twenty nine perspective regions in this territory. The Kalchin field is under intensive development; test extraction is performed in the North Demiansk deposit. Two new fields, Gusenichnoye and East Demyansk, have been recently discovered, and new oil deposits have been found in the Kalchin field.
