The unexplored deposit search contract was entered into between the West Siberian Academy and Samotlorneftegaz, a business unit of TNK-BP. Its professionals are sure that a second Samotlor exists, it only takes persistence and luck to find it. These favors were wished to all geologists on the last weekend. On April 4, subsoil prospectors celebrated their professional feast. To open a deposit without leaving one''s table is everyday work of the contemporary geologist whose working took is a computer and an electronic database that is constantly adjusted and updated by auxiliary services – the aerospace and the seismic prospecting. Geologists from Samotlorneftegaz, Mr. Yury Kazantsev, Head of the Mineral Use Department, and Mr. Victor Vatuev, senior expert from the Mineral Use Department, told about the geologist''s profession, its everyday realities, and prospects.
