"5 Million Tons Achieved"!

July 14, 2004, Wednesday

Reports on a joint news conference of Mr. Andrey Khvan, Chief Engineer of Tyumenneftegaz OJSC, Mr. Radiy Raziapov, Chief Geologist, and Mr. Yuriy Sviatskevich, Head of the Uvat District. The conference was devoted to TNG''s extraction of the 5 millionth ton of oil in the Kalchino field – the "firstling" of the south of the Tyumen Region, which has been developed for more than 10 years. It was noted that it took oilmen six and a half years to extract the first million tons. At present, annual output is equal to 1 million tons of oil. The enterprise expects to extract 1,100,000 tons this year. Head of the District congratulated oilmen on having passed this landmark and stated that the success of Tyumenneftegaz is a feast for all rural residents. Thanks to the oil company, the district is a self-sustained territory, whereas other southern districts receive subsidies. In the words of Mr. Khvan, the enterprise''s tax allocations for the south of the district amounted to some RUR 740 million in 1H 2004, whereas total annual payments for the south of the district hardly exceeded RUR 791 million last year. Mr. Raziapov says that only half of hydrocarbon assets of the Uvat District have been explored, and only a third of the Kalchino area has been explored. It means that large oil reserves may be found in the south of the region, and consequently, both the region and the enterprise have tangible developmental prospects.
