The aspiration of the Russian state to take a more active part in regulation of volumes of extracted and exported natural resources is legitimate, said Lord John Brown, CEO of BP Group of Companies, on July 1. "Governments in many nations regulate extraction and distribution of natural resources in detail. For instance, the British Government when extraction in the North Sea started: not only the scope but also the technology of hydrocarbons extraction were regulated in order to make the most of these fields," BP''s CEO said. In his words, TNK-BP in which the British energy company holds half of shares is ready for different inspections, starting from mineral use and ending with tax payments. "We abide by legal requirements in all areas of work and are ready to show that," said BP''s CEO. Lord Brown informed that, at the meeting with Mr. Victor Khristenko, Minister for Industry and Power Engineering, he acquainted the minister with TNK-BP''s performance. "We move at a good pace, the company managed to do something that nobody else in Russia could have done – we joined top managements of two different companies into a single high performer."
