Rospan Performs a Unique Operation Involving Large-Volume Hydraulic Fracturing of Formation
Rospan International CJSC (Yamal Nenets Autonomous Area) performed a unique operation involving large-volume hydraulic fracturing of formation (HFF) in the East Urengoy field last week, informed the enterprise''s chief geologist Vladimir Yarovenko. In his words, when t his method is used, 305 tons of propant are pumped into the well. The well''s yield soared by 300% as a result. Specialists estimate that the well''s yield may be boosted 5-6 times more. When a conventional HFF method is used, 40-100 tons of propant are pumped into a well, the interlocutor explained. To perform the operation involving large-volume HFF, professionals from Rospan and Katkoneft LLC JV (Kogalym) have developed a new technical design of deep-penetrating hydraulic fracturing of formation, improving reliability of equipment applied for HFF several times, Mr. Yarovenko said. In 2003, the company extracted over 1,515 million cubic meters of gas and 380,000 tons of gas condensate. Gas and gas condensate extraction is planned to amount to 3,265 million cubic meters and 743,000 tons, respectively, in 2004. Last May, the enterprise produced 265 million cubic meters of gas and 55,000 tons of condensate. Rospan develops deep-lying gas seams in the New Urengoy and East Urengoy gas and condensate fields in the Yamal Nenets Autonomous Area. Reserves are estimated at 950 billion cubic meters of gas and 180 million tons of gas condensate. YUKOS Petroleum Company holds 56% in Rospan, and TNK, 44%. In January 2003, TNK won a tender for acting as the management company for Rospan International CJSC. When TNK-BP was established, the Tyumen company''s stake in Rospan was contributed to it.
